Port at a Glance
Port Overview
Mundra Port sits on the northern shore of the Gulf of Kutch, 80 km south-east of Kandla. Its multi-purpose terminals feature nine berths across 1.8 km of quay length, with alongside depths ranging from 9 to 16.5 metres — accommodating vessels up to 150,000 DWT directly at berth. Mundra is one of only three Indian ports capable of handling Capesize bulk carriers (the others being Krishnapatnam and Gangavaram). The port handles containers, coal, automobiles, crude oil and bulk cargo, serving as a critical gateway for northern and western India trade.
Parent Port Relationship
Mundra is associated with Kandla Port — major private port, 80 km south-east of kandla. Many vessel operators evaluate Mundra and Kandla together when planning Indian port calls. See the Kandla bunker guide for context on the broader supply area.

Supply & Product Sourcing
the leading Indian private bunker operator operates the in-port fuel infrastructure as India's leading private bunker supplier. The setup is unique in India: all three commercial marine fuel grades (VLSFO, HSFO, LSMGO) are available at Mundra with single-point ordering and direct pipeline supply to most jetties. HSFO supply was launched specifically to serve the growing scrubber-fitted fleet calling Mundra on Asia-Europe rotations. From Mundra, the leading Indian private bunker operator additionally supplies Kandla, Sikka, Vadinar and Jamnagar anchorages via its own and chartered barge fleet.
Supply landscape: Seven Ocean sources bunker fuel at this location from the full range of available physical suppliers — state-owned oil marketing companies, private-sector bunker operators, and independent regional specialists — selecting for each nomination based on price, quality and availability.
Refinery & product source: A private-sector liquid terminal inside Mundra Port, with dedicated tanks with 460+ TKL capacity serving all fuel grades.
Delivery Methods
- Pipeline (12-inch and 16-inch, up to 350 MT/hr)
- Barge-to-ship (own/chartered fleet)
- Dedicated barge berth for loading
Pipeline bunkering at berth is the default and fastest method at Mundra, with pumping rates up to 350 MT/hour — well above typical Indian port barge capacity. For vessels at anchorage or at jetties without direct pipeline connection, barge-to-ship supply is provided from the dedicated barge-loading berth inside Mundra Port. Truck-to-ship delivery is available for LSMGO and smaller HSD stems.
Vessel Types Regularly Bunkered
Capesize bulk carriers, ULCV container vessels, automobile carriers, tankers, VLCCs.
Regulatory & Tax Context
GST on bunker fuel at Mundra, as at all Indian ports, is 5 percent for both foreign-going and coastal vessels. Indian-flag vessels operating under the Merchant Shipping Act plying cargo between Indian ports can claim customs duty exemption on imported bunker fuels subject to documentary conditions — we handle this paperwork as part of the supply contract. Bunker Delivery Notes are issued MARPOL Annex VI compliant with every stem.
Frequently Asked Questions
What makes Mundra different from other Indian ports for bunkering?
Mundra is the only Indian port offering single-point pipeline supply of VLSFO, HSFO and LSMGO at the same location. Pumping rate of 350 MT/hour is significantly faster than barge-based supply elsewhere. For large stems or scrubber-fitted vessels needing HSFO, this is a material operational advantage.
Can I bunker at Mundra while loading or discharging cargo?
Yes. Pipeline bunkering during cargo operations is standard practice at Mundra. The leading Indian private bunker operator's 12-inch and 16-inch pipeline network reaches nearly all jetties, so you can nominate bunker supply concurrent with cargo work. This substantially reduces port time versus separate bunker calls.
How does Mundra pricing compare to Singapore and Fujairah?
Mundra pricing is typically competitive with Middle East hubs on a delivered basis, particularly for vessels already routing through the Gulf of Kutch. The absence of Hormuz transit for Fujairah-bound calls and the 5% GST treatment make Mundra attractive for specific rotations.
Does the leading Indian private bunker operator have its own barge fleet?
Yes — the leading Indian private bunker operator operates an owned and chartered barge fleet that services the broader Gulf of Kutch anchorages including Sikka, Vadinar, Kandla and Jamnagar. Dedicated barge-loading berth at Mundra supports this operation.
What is the maximum vessel size that can bunker at Mundra?
16.5-metre alongside depth at the deepest berths accommodates Capesize bulk carriers and ULCV container vessels. VLCCs can bunker at anchorage via barge. Advance coordination is recommended for VLCC-scale stems.
